The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović and the Serb member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik have visited the Ukrainian Church of the Transfiguration of our Lord today and met with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Prnjavor.

The President Cvijanović said that the Republic of Srpska was making itself available to Ukrainian associations and churches in order to help the people in Ukraine.

“Knowing that nowadays we live in a world that is ruthless and in which we have different phenomena, we understand that there is special concern in the Ukrainian community within the Republic of Srpska and BiH, and that is why we want to say that we are making ourselves available here, as many countries, including Ukraine, were available to our people during all the times of suffering”, it was pointed out by the President of the Republic.

The President of Srpska stated at today’s meeting in Prnjavor, which was attended by the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Milorad Dodik, ministers in the Government of the Republic of Srpska, representatives of the Prnjavor municipality and the Ukrainian national community, that concrete steps were agreed to help the Ukrainian people, including joint activities of local and republic authorities, associations and clergy.

This is a humanitarian aspect, acceptance of people, refugees, and possibly acceptance of children who could spend some time here, financing of costs and liabilities by the republic institutions, collection of concrete humanitarian aid which we will be directed via the existing channels, but also via the channels which have a more global approach,” as explained by the President of the Republic

The President Cvijanović said that she supported the work of the Ukrainian associations and what was important in improving their position, especially in nurturing and preserving identity features.

“The Ukrainian community in the Republic of Srpska has good bonds and nurtures cooperation with its homeland or motherland”, it was pointed out by the President of Srpska.

The President of the Republic of Srpska added that the municipality of Prnjavor, also known as “Little Europe”, has always been a safe, stable home, not only for the constituent peoples, but also for the numerous minority peoples living in it.
